Stream Deck 7.1+
Stream Deck+ required for dial and touch controls.
Add dedicated buttons
Drag Volume Up, Volume Down or Mute onto a key. They automatically target the current default output, so no device selection is required. Volume changes by 1% immediately, then by 1% every 0.5 seconds while held. Release to stop. Mute toggles once per press.
Audio Output action settings
- Output device: identifies a connected playback endpoint by ID. Reselect if its ID changes.
- Title: selecting a device sets its model name as the default title, e.g. Speakers (Soundcore 3) becomes Soundcore 3. Edit it using Stream Deck’s standard title field. There is no separate display-name setting.
- Volume step: 1–20% per tick, default 2%.
- Hold threshold: 300–2000ms, default 600ms. Hold and release a key or dial to toggle mute. Pressed rotation adjusts volume only; releasing it does not switch output or toggle mute.
- Communications default: Windows only: optionally switch the default output for calls. Mac switches regular audio output; system alerts and app-specific call routing are unchanged.
Behavior
Volume and mute apply to the assigned device regardless of the default output. Changing volume does not unmute. Status refreshes approximately every 1.5 seconds.
Activation means selecting the default output. Enable disabled devices in Windows first. Apps with fixed output routing or exclusive playback may need their own settings changed or a restart.
Mac device limitations
No additional tools are required. HDMI, DisplayPort and some USB DACs may not expose volume or mute controls to macOS. Output switching remains available. Unsupported operations are explained in the inspector.
Uninstall
Remove the actions and plugin in Stream Deck. Uninstalling does not restore the previous Windows output setting.
